Today we’d like to introduce you to Galina Antonova.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Galina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
First, I would like to say, I believe in life we get everything we want. I grew up in Moscow, Russia in the 90s dreaming of living in Los Angeles, pursuing my dreams and having an exciting life! 20 years later, I am now living in Los Angeles, pursuing my dreams and living an exciting life! Sometimes I look back and I can’t believe how far I have come and almost all my dreams have become reality! I never even imagined that I will be where I am today!
I started my journey about 20 years ago when I first moved to the US. At first, I didn’t plan on being an actress, a fashion editor or having my own podcast. I just wanted to work, get an education and have a normal life. When I first moved to the US, I worked very hard; I had two jobs as a waitress and at the same time, I was putting myself through college, getting my degree in finance because I believed I have to get an education. When I finally graduated with my degree in 2009 the economy was in the recession so I couldn’t get a job for two years and I had to continue working as a waitress to make the ends meet which definitely was disappointing after all the hard work I put in to get my education. About eight years ago, I finally moved to Los Angeles and still, I didn’t really think about pursuing my dreams because I thought how dare I to have those aspirations and dreams. So at first, I just got a job in accounting but since Los Angeles is the city of dreamers, I started to feel unapologetic about pursuing my dreams. Again, I worked hard, stayed focused and disciplined and went for it. I signed up for acting classes, I started to develop my social presence, I became very valuable to people I worked with. I operated by principle “under promise and over deliver”. I made sure I always bring tremendous value with me. I really think I can attribute my success to this quality of mine.
So over the years, I have added several movies to my resume, and as a fashion editor I attended all four Fashion weeks 2020 in NY, London, Milan and Paris. Also, I started my podcast “BrainsandBeauty” where I interview outstanding women and they get to share their story to inspire other women. My story does not end there, I am also one of the very few women who invest in startups, I am an angel investor so I fully utilize my degree in Finance. At last, I am currently working on another big project which for now is a secret but I am very excited about it!
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t call my journey a smooth road because I wasn’t sure what I was doing, who I am and what I really wanted in life. I had to overcome a lot of hurdles such as my immigration status, language barrier and even loneliness from being alone in this country in my 20s. Living alone in the USA without parents was pretty hard for me. Also, there was a period I didn’t see my parents for 5-6 years not even on Skype! So since I was 19 years old, I live alone and take care of myself 100% without any help! All these obstacles made me very tough and strong inside but of course I am furry and sweet on the outside!
